Regurgitation - it's NOT the same as Vomiting

Fixing regurgitation is often times a trial and error situation that can be complicated by many factors.   Sometimes the problem is physical in nature, sometimes it's just the dog food that the dog can't tolerate.  Often times, changing the way and timing for the dog to eat can make a big difference.

Thanks to Mary Ellen and Fran's work, here's one example of how that can happen Regurgitation

Boston Terriers and Regurgitation

My 8 year old Boston terrier began to regurgitate (not vomit) regularly (12 or so times a day) about a year ago. The veterinarian said to feed her only canned chopped food and gave her some medication to be taken 30 minutes before she ate to calm her nerves. This didn’t help so the next step was Barium and x-rays. Nothing showed up in the x-rays. The next step was exploratory surgery, which didn’t show anything either. She was getting progressively worse.

One night she regurgitated 14 times in 2 1/2 hours so I decided to take matters in my own hands. With advice from Fran, Joe and Debbie I began to experiment with her food. I also put a four inch block of wood under her dish to elevate it. The formula we have settled on is this:

1 can of Wellness whitefish & sweet potato
1 cup of rice
1 can vegetables (peas/carrots, green beans, or mixed veg.)

Mix these together well and feed four times a day - this is enough for FOUR portions It has been one week since she has regurgitated at all. Hopefully the problem is licked.

Molly is doing great! I can’t remember the last time she regurgitated.
I have it down to a science now:
1 can Wellness
1 cup cooked rice
1 small can French sliced green beans
Mix together well and divide into 4 portions.
She likes to eat at 10, 2, 6 and 10. She starts barking at those times to let me know she’s hungry!
When she got on the correct diet, the anal gland problems also cleared up!

Thanks,
Mary Ellen AND Molly
