Living
with a Megaesophagus Dog
Megaesophagus
is a condition in which the muscles in the esophagus become weak
and stretch out, creating pockets that prevent food from
reaching the stomach. The condition causes regurgitation,
loss of weight, and can lead to pneumonia if not managed.
But Megaesophagus is NOT a death sentence! In most cases,
adjustments to the feeding routine such as vertical feeding will
help manage the condition and allow the dog to live a relatively
normal life.

Look Below to See Our Beautiful Kids Please
keep in mind, we have foster parents and adoptable Boston Terriers all
over the southeastern US Many
of the kids we have are "special needs" although we don't make
a big deal of it. Maybe a few have one eye or maybe they're
deaf. A lot of them aren't "pretty." A lot
of them are just old. A lot of them are just dumped kids
that nobody wanted anymore. Many have endured incredible
mistreatment and suffering. That
is where we have the greatest need because we will NOT abandon them. This
is a rescue and these kids are rescued dogs. Amazingly, they
are still full of trust and love. Bostons
generally do NOT do well with young children. We'll be glad to
discuss this with you but you need to know this is a big concern upfront
for us. The

In
this day of
Electronic Fads, it's Extremely Important to Emphasize the Need for Old
Fashioned Dog Tags even if your kid is chipped.
Most people
don't have a scanner at home and if your kid is lost, the tag may save
its life.
And
remember, wandering dogs don't care about your dog's invisible
fence. Many little dogs are killed that way.
Why, most of the time, you need one:
Why I like
real fences

Important Notices for
Cold Weather
It's
That time of the year when the air is usually dry and your dog may be miserable
For Happy
eyes for dogs:
Use 1 or 2
drops of Equate (or an equivalent brand) gentle
lubricant eye drops in each eye of an older dog once or twice each day.
Check the back panel of any brand for "Hydroxypropyl Methylcellulose
0.3%" That's the correct lubricant. You
can also check Fannie Mae's website for more potential options at Fannie
Mae ~
Don't forget, Bostons
have short snouts and thin little fur pelts. They don't have
any "pre-heating" for breathing like many dogs and they chill
quickly. Pneumonia is a real potential life threatening
problem and it doesn't take long.
~
Short, quick visits for personal
business are critical.
They're NOT outside dogs !!

If
You Need to Surrender Your Dog and You're Serious about Wanting Help
If you have a Boston Terrier for whom you can no longer care,
contact us at 865.983.3272 or email us at info@bostonterriertn.org
instead of taking your dog to a shelter or call the Boston Terrier rescue
nearest you. Remember you're just wasting our time and yours if you
don't tell us where you are and........
You
MUST Complete the
Owner
Surrender and Release
Form
with complete information in order for us to proceed.
It helps us to best foster the Boston. Complete it with any
additional information and email or FAX it to us. We also
require some good pictures.
Waiting 'till the last minute to call a
rescue is NOT a good idea for the dog. We're NOT just sitting around
waiting for your phone call and rescues stay loaded.
You
must have the dog
up to date on shots and vet records available to us. We are all
volunteers and we survive on donations, volunteers and charity. Many
times people call, ask for help and then disappear. It wastes valuable
time for both US and the DOG and if you call, it's YOUR
responsibility stay keep in communication if you want our help.
If you
really want help your dog, you're going to have to communicate and do it promptly
with all the materials we ask you to send or we simply won't be able to help

More than
1/3 of the nearly 8 million
dogs annually euthanized in the United States are dumped there
by their "protectors," the losers they trusted, their owners and
families. The chances of
them being
adopted are slim.
A dog dies
every eight seconds in a shelter somewhere, shaking and scared, waiting desperately
to be saved by
somebody, anybody. Most of them don't even have names anymore.
They have only their dignity.
With these staggering
numbers, every time a puppy or kitten is purchased at a
pet store like Petland, or from a back yard breeder or from some loser at a flea market, an older dog or cat
or a litter of pups or kittens somewhere gets a death sentence. It's not just inhumane, it's
shameful to profit from killing.

~For our Own Big and Little Kids~
Even if you're not quite ready to adopt a Boston of your own, you can help a great deal
for medical procedures for sick and injured Bostonians with a special gift for a little
dog, many of whom are too old or too sick to be adopted.
Checks are always appreciated in any amount and if you're interested,
please call or email us for more information.
Some people aren't able to adopt but do enjoy sponsoring
dogs. Without donations and sponsors, we are limited to how much we can help these poor little souls.
Rescue has also become a sanctuary for
older, sick, disabled or otherwise "un-adoptable" dogs. We have
many living happily in foster homes who're being made possible by your kind support.
They don't need to be a special needs dog to need a sponsor. All dogs need
sponsors and somebody special in their life. Dogs need families too and
they'll never let YOU down.
A Boston Terrier kid somewhere will thank you for your
Kindness and you'll get a Star in Heaven

I RESCUED A HUMAN TODAY
Her eyes met mine as she walked down the corridor peering apprehensively into the kennels. I felt her need instantly and knew I had to help her. I wagged my tail, not too exuberantly, so she wouldn't be afraid.
As she stopped at my kennel I blocked her view from a little accident I had in the back of my cage. I didn't want her to know that I hadn't been walked today. Sometimes the shelter keepers get too busy and I didn't want her to think poorly of them.
As she read my kennel card I hoped that she wouldn't feel sad about my past. I only have the future to look forward to and want to make a difference in someone's life.
She got down on her knees and made little kissy sounds at me. I shoved my shoulder and side of my head up against the bars to comfort her. Gentle fingertips caressed my neck; she was desperate for companionship.
A tear fell down her cheek and I raised my paw to assure her that all would be well. Soon my kennel door opened and her smile was so bright that I instantly jumped into her arms. I would promise to keep her safe. I would promise to always be by her side. I would promise to do everything I could to see that radiant smile and sparkle in her eyes. I was so fortunate that she came down my corridor. So many more are out there who haven't walked the corridors. So many more to be saved. At least I could save one.
I rescued a human today
